Denouncing Anti-Black Racism and Racism of Any Form
JUNE 12, 2020
We have all seen the heartbreaking examples of racism that have taken place across North America. CorHealth Ontario expressly denounces anti-black racism and all racism of any form.
CorHealth Ontario’s vision for the best cardiac, stroke, and vascular care for all Ontarians means just that – for all Ontarians regardless of race, gender, socio-economic standing, geography, among other factors. To that end, we are committed to increasing our understanding of, and addressing, the inequity that exists for marginalized communities in Ontario.
Condemning racism and inequity is a good start. But, the events of the last few weeks remind us that we also have a responsibility to educate ourselves, speak out, and actively participate in changing actions, attitudes and beliefs for the better. We are committed to our core values and we encourage each one of us to embrace them:
- Hold each other accountable as we learn, speak, and act;
- Create energy to support anti-racism activities in a way that works for each of us;
- Be role models within the organization and our community;
- Embrace learning to educate ourselves; and
- Work as a team to advance our province’s healthcare system for all Ontarians.
We are committed to a respectful workplace free of discrimination, harassment or violence, as set out in our policies.
While we must learn from those who face racism daily, whether it is in the form of apathy, microaggression or appalling acts of violence against Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), it is not enough. We ALL must be willing to confront and fight racism.
We are committed to listening, encouraging important conversations, and identifying ways our organization can support the necessary change locally and provincially. We also encourage those who may be experiencing feelings of sadness, being overwhelmed, anger, fear, or frustration in the face of recent events, to reach out.
We must stand united against racism and inequity.
Sincerely,
The CorHealth Ontario Executive Team
