Letter from the Interim CEO
In the Ministry Realignment announcement made on October 18, 2018, by our Deputy Minister, Helen Angus, we noted that our former Assistant Deputy Minister, Lynn Guerriero, was reassigned to OHIP (formerly Negotiations and Accountability Management) and also as the Executive Lead of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) Agency Review.
This Agency Review was prompted, in part, by the Ernst and Young Report: Managing Transformation: A Modernization Action Plan for Ontario, prepared for the Premier, September 21, 2018. The Report notes that 42% of total government operating expenditures are spent in Health and much of this expenditure is spent through transfer payments to hospitals through Local Health Integrated Networks (LHINs), directly to health agencies, or organizations like CorHealth Ontario. The Report recommended a call for action to maximize this investment, modernize delivery systems, improve productivity for taxpayers and achieve better outcomes.
In anticipation of the Agency Review and possible realignment of agencies, the CorHealth Ontario Board of Directors approved some important Principles to guide decisions which may need to be taken in the future. These Principles included:
- Build on CorHealth Ontario collaborations and partnerships;
- Contributes to health system building, improved productivity and results;
- Reasonable fit with CorHealth Ontario’s mission of best cardiac, stroke and vascular care in Ontario;
- Contributes to measurement of performance to guide improvements in care and better outcomes for patients.
CorHealth Ontario has indicated to the MOHLTC that we are prepared to assist them in their Agency Review. We will provide an update on this item in the next issue of CorHealth Quarterly!
